How to Fix a Chip in a Marble Floor
A chipped marble floor can almost always be repaired in place. The aim is a repair that cannot be seen, without lifting or replacing the stone.
Why a chip should be repaired early
Marble is porous. An open chip lets moisture and dirt into the stone, which can stain it below the surface, and the weakened edges keep crumbling under foot traffic. The sooner a chip is repaired, the smaller and less visible the repair.
What to do straight away
Until the chip is repaired, a few simple steps keep the damage from growing:
- Keep any loose fragments; they help when assessing the damage.
- Tape around the chip so its edges are not knocked further.
- Clean only with a pH-neutral stone cleaner.
- Never use vinegar, lemon or acidic cleaners: marble reacts to acid and etches.
Why do-it-yourself kits often show
Marble is not one flat colour. It has depth, veining and a particular way of reflecting light. Off-the-shelf fillers are usually a single opaque colour, so the repair looks like a patch. Sanding by hand without the right abrasives also dulls the polished stone around the chip, which can leave a larger mark than the chip itself.
How we repair a chip
- Assessment: we check the chip and the stone around it for cracks or loose areas.
- Filling: the chip is rebuilt with a filler colour matched to the stone, including its veining.
- Levelling: the repair is ground flush with the floor, so it cannot be felt underfoot.
- Finishing: the area is honed and polished to match the sheen of the surrounding marble, then sealed.
When a repair is not the answer
If a slab is broken through or has come loose from its bed, it may need lifting or replacing. We assess that first, and if restoration is not the right answer, we say so.

Questions
How to Fix a Chip in a Marble Floor — your questions
Can a chip in a marble floor be repaired invisibly?
Yes. The repair is colour matched to the surrounding marble, including its veining, then levelled and polished so it blends with the original stone.
Does the marble have to be lifted?
No. Chips are repaired in place on the existing floor, which is what makes it faster and less disruptive than replacement.
Can I clean around the chip before it is repaired?
Yes, with a pH-neutral stone cleaner only. Acidic products such as vinegar or lemon etch marble.
Do you repair chips in other stone?
Yes. We repair every kind of stone, natural and engineered, including granite, travertine, limestone, onyx and terrazzo.
Which areas do you cover?
Dubai and all seven emirates of the UAE, for hotels, residences, commercial developments and private homes.
